born in rustington, sussex, great britain, within the sound of the sea.

mother played classical piano...
father played jazz professionally...
so was exposed to varied musical influences..

was first inspired to write instrumental music by maurice jarres
soundtrack for lawrence of arabia
which i thought was v simple but v effective...
(later in sydney i met maurice at a hotel in kings cross
when he had a meeting with charlie re the soundtrack of mad max 3
and i tagged along and told him what a great influence he had been...
i think he was pleased..(he had a grand piano in his suite..!))

left school at 17 and attended drama school for 2 years
before my family emigrated to australia...

worked as an actor for a couple of years..
touring qland for the australian theatre for young people
as the servant in goldonis the servant of two masters...
appearing in various tv shows including skippy and the rovers..
last show was drip dry dreams with grahame bond at the adelaide festival

(discovered drugs in a big way (leave out?) and)
decided to turn to music..
and try to return to the basic elements of music
to reinvent it from the ground up so to speak...
which is when i discovered the dulcimer
a medieval instrument that survived
in the Appalachian mountains in the US...
it had only four strings..two drones and a doubled melody string
with a modal keyboard
which meant that you couldnt play a wrong note..!
i was rapt..the drone was the primal harmony..
the strum provided the rhythm..
and the monophonic melody could change mode by tuning...
very simple but all the elements of music and free improvisation...

ended up being part of the formation of the white company...
a music theatre troupe which was trying to reinvent music theatre...
toured round australia in a white bus with rainbow wheels...
we had the job of publicising the nimbin festival..(1973)
the australian equivalent of woodstock
the company kept evolving through the seventies..
touring for the arts council of south australia..etc etc
creating and performing our own unique style of theatre...

nell in 77 and kathleen 80 mother suellen fuller

in the eighties after split with suellen was involved with various electronic outfits
including rainbow generator and quantum mechanics and orbital circus
which led to a momentous reunion with charlie hook mcmahon
didg virtuoso and allround bushman...
we started a project called gondwanaland and commenced performing in 83
between alice springs and sydney produced our first album terra incognita
critically acclaimed blah blah blah
